"The opportunity to work and study was perfect for me”

Adam Sewell studied BSc Geography

A man wearing a graduation gown and cap stands in a brightly lit hall and smiles at the camera. Behind him are large lit up letters that spell out BBK

"I'm a project manager in construction, but I'm hoping to move into environmental management or nature conservation management, as it's always been my passion.

Getting a degree has always been on my bucket list and because I was hoping to change career, I was considering going to university full time to study in the area I was passionate about. But that meant I would have to stop working, which didn’t appeal. Then I found Birkbeck, and the opportunity to work and study at the same time was perfect for me. The course was great, and my favourite modules were all the ones to do with environment and conservation.

I was trying to make my mind up about whether to come to Birkbeck for almost a year – ‘Should I? Shouldn’t I? Will I be able to do it?’ Now I’ve graduated, and it’s so rewarding. I don’t regret it at all. So, if anyone out there is considering coming and thinking the same things, I’d say: Why not? You can do it – and I think you should!
