Professor Julie Gore conferred the Award of Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences

Birkbeck Professor of Organizational Psychology Julie Gore has been conferred the Award of the Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences in recognition of her significant contributions to social science for public benefit.

Professor Gore’s research examines how professionals make complex decisions in uncertain, high-stakes environments, with applications across healthcare, engineering, cybersecurity, defence, aviation, and management. She has a leading role in the international naturalistic decision-making association (NDM). A Chartered Psychologist and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, she is renowned for translating cognitive expertise into evidence informed organisational practice. Professor Gore’s current collaborations include working with Universities of Liverpool and Bath, sharing her psychological methods knowledge to explore extreme teams and decision-making expertise.

Professor Gore said: 

“It is a true honour to be elected to the Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences. Being part of a group of professionals and scholars who are recognised for their impact is close to my heart. I need to sincerely thank the many colleagues, students and expert professionals who have supported my career. I am very thankful that our combined continued efforts ensure that contributions from occupational/organizational and decision psychology remain timely and important.”

“The psychology of decision making and expertise includes a multidisciplinary approach to understanding difficult challenges. I have worked with academics across the world from different disciplines from maths to management, alongside professionals in government and industry. Supporting people to elicit and develop cognitive strategies to enhance their decision making is a collective effort”.

The Academy’s Fellowship comprises leading social scientists from academia, the public, private and third sectors. All Fellows are selected through an independent peer review process for excellence in their fields and their substantial contributions to social science for public benefit.  The 74 new Fellows have been elected from 38 UK organisations, comprising 36 universities, as well as think tanks, research institutes, public research funding bodies, and from countries beyond the UK including Canada, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and New Zealand.
