Professor Andy Carter appointed Chief Editor of the Journal of the Geological Society of London

Birkbeck Professor takes the editorial helm of the journal from the world's oldest geological society.

Andy Carter, Professor of Earth Sciences, will take up his post as Chief Editor of the Geological Society of London’s flagship journal in March. The society is the world's oldest geological society and its journal (JGS) is well-known for publishing the most topical and highest quality articles covering the full range of Earth Sciences research.

Professor Carter’s research uses geochronology and thermochronometry to understand how continents deform and how surface topography develops over different spatial and temporal scales. These investigations help to give us insights into climate and ecological changes past, present and future. His work takes him around the globe to Northern Vietnam, Himalya-Tibet and Antarctica.

Professor Carter will be speaking to an audience of Be Birkbeck members on March 16 on the subject of: From Essex to Antarctica- the Geology of Climate Change. The event is also open to members of the public - book your free place.
