The third event of this year took place on 15 January 2022. It was the annual Saturday School on parliamentary democracy and European integration for A-level Politics and Government teachers and their pupils.

The fourth was a panel discussion on Europe and Afghanistan organised by Dr Jasmine Bhatia (Birkbeck) in association with Dr D. G. Dimitrakopoulos. It took place online on 20 January 2022 and was very well attended. The video recording is available on our site

The fifth event was a panel discussion on Erasmus, Turing and student mobility across borders. It was held online on 28 March and involved Prof. Paul James Cardwell (King's College London), Ms Delaina Benjamin (Member of the Inner Temple, London) and Mr Douglas Chapman MP who is the SNP's spokesperson on innovation, skills and education.

Forthcoming events
Our sixth event of the year will take the form of a roundtable entitled 'In conversation with Prof. Luuk van Middelaar (Leiden University)'. He is one of the leading commentators on the EU and speechwriter for Herman van Rompuy when the latter was President of the European Council. He will present his book (Pandemonium: Saving Europe, Agenda Publishing, 2021) on 21 April 2022 and will then respond to comments from Prof. Hussein Kassim (UEA and advisory panel member of this Jean Monnet Chair), Jennifer Rankin (The Guardian's Brussels correspondent and also advisory panel member of this Jean Monnet Chair) and Mr. Peter Wagner (senior official of the European Commission). This event will be held face-to-face. Access is free but registration is required and can be done through this link.

The second annual Jean Monnet lecture has been postponed due to strike action that took place across British universities. It will take place on 6 June 2022 and will be delivered by one of the most eminent contemporary philosophers, namely Professor Philippe Van Parijs (Hoover Chair, Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve; Oxford; EUI). Its title is "Europe: a utopian project whose inevitable destiny is failure?" Access is free but registration is required and can be done through this link. Those already registered will not need to do so again.
