Join Professor Didier Queloz as he delves into the intriguing question of alien existence and shares his remarkable journey in discovering new planets.

Birkbeck is hosting a public lecture by Nobel Prize-winning astrophysicist, Professor Didier Queloz. The event, titled "Do Aliens Exist and Are They Trying to Find Earth?", will take place online on June 10, 16:00 — 17:00.
Professor Queloz, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1995 alongside Professor Michel Mayor for their pioneering discovery of the first exoplanet, 51 Pegasi b, will share insights from his illustrious career. This discovery marked the beginning of a new era in astronomy, leading to the identification of thousands of exoplanets and expanding our understanding of the universe.
Hosted by Dr. Caroline Kamau-Mitchell, leader of Birkbeck's Brainstorming Grants Group, this lecture promises to be an enlightening experience for all attendees. The event will also be introduced by Professor Sally Wheeler OBE, Vice Chancellor of Birkbeck, University of London.
"We are immensely excited to welcome Professor Queloz to share his journey and thoughts on the possibility of extraterrestrial life," said Dr. Kamau-Mitchell. "This is a unique opportunity for the public to engage with one of the leading minds in astrophysics and explore the fascinating question of whether we are alone in the universe. Everyone is welcome, and everyone can learn something about tips and strategies in your own career journey.”
The lecture is part of Birkbeck's tradition of opening its summer session to the public, allowing everyone to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of world-renowned intellectuals. Attendees are encouraged to book early as spaces are limited.
