Call for nominations for Alumnus Governor 2021
To: Birkbeck College Alumni
Election of a Governor from among the alumni
To serve on the College’s Governing Body for a term of three years from the date of appointment (starting in the Autumn Term 2021) to 30 September 2024.
In accordance with the procedures in the Standing Orders of the Governors, and on behalf of the Returning Officer, this is a call for nominations to stand in an election to fill the above vacancy.
This vacancy arises on the expiry of the term of office of: Alumnus Governor, Rhona Stainthorp
The Governing Body is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the College. It consists of twenty-one Governors – eleven Independent Governors, two Ex Officio Governors (the Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor), two Governors representing Academic Board, two representing Academic Staff, one representing non-teaching Staff, two student Governors, and one Alumnus Governor, elected from among the Birkbeck alumni. The Governing Body meets three times a year, normally in November, March and June/July. An additional Strategic Awayday meeting will normally take place in February.
The elected member will be required to serve on the College’s Governing Body for a term of three years from this Autumn Term 2021 until 30 September 2024.
Alumnus Governor
Nominations for the Alumnus Governor must be made by members of the Birkbeck Alumni. The nomination period will be open for 28 days from Tuesday, 12 October 2021 until Monday 8 November 2021.
If more than one nomination is received for this vacancy, then an election will be held. The election period will remain open for a further 28 days.
Nominations
All nominations must be made on the form provided and must be signed by the proposer, seconder and nominee, all of whom must be former students of Birkbeck College. The nominee must not be a member of the current staff or student body.
The proposer should return the completed form to committees@bbk.ac.uk, copying in the nominee and the seconder, no later than Monday 8 November at 5pm.
The College is committed to ensuring visible representation of diverse groups on our Governing Body, in particular women and Black, Asian and minority ethnic staff who are currently under-represented. Nominations from these groups are therefore encouraged and will be positively welcomed.
