Birkbeck University is one of 23 universities to be again selected to offer the Parliamentary Studies Module from the 2024/25 academic year.

The aim of the module is to provide students with a detailed knowledge of how Parliament works in both theory and practice and is delivered in collaboration with the Houses of Parliament. The applications were judged by a panel of staff from the Houses of Parliament.

Professor Matthew Davies, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, said: “Parliamentary Studies has pride of place here at Birkbeck as an innovative and cutting-edge module, bringing together the theory and practice of Politics. We are delighted to be running it again”.

The Parliamentary Studies Module has been delivered at Birkbeck since 2013/14. Past students on the course have met MPs, Peers, and the Speaker of the Commons and also submitted evidence to a Select Committee.

The module helps students to develop skills enabling their progression to roles in the UK Parliament, the civil service and Government departments, or working for political parties and parliamentarians.
