GLOBAL FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP 2024-25

Discover our Global Future Master’s scholarships 2024-25. The Global Future Scholarship will be applied to your fees if you are eligible. You don’t need to apply for the scholarship. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

The English language requirements for our courses are provided on individual course pages as minimum IELTS scores, however we accept many other tests and qualifications.

Undergraduate Entry Requirements

Applicants from France who have completed the following can be considered for direct entry:

  • Diplôme du Baccalauréat General/ Option Internationale du Baccalauréat with a minimum final grade of 12/20 (equivalent to A-level grades BBC)
  • A-level AAA = 144 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 14 (corresponding subject grades: 14 = A)
  • A-level AAB = 136 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 13.5
  • A-level ABB = 128 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 13
  • A-level BBB = 120 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 12.5 (corresponding subject grades: 12.5 = B)
  • A-level BBC = 112 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 12
  • A-level BCC = 104 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 11.5
  • A-level CCC = 96 UCAS tariff points = comparable offer 11 (corresponding subject grades: 11 = C).

Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. IB requirements range from 28 to 30, depending on the course.

If you do not meet our entry requirements, we will consider you for one of our four-year, full-time undergraduate degrees with foundation year. Upon successful completion of the foundation year, you will automatically progress onto a three-year, full-time undergraduate degree. 

Alternatively, you can apply for the OnCampus undergraduate foundation programme, which will prepare you for one of our undergraduate degrees.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

To be considered for entry onto a Master’s degree at Birkbeck, a student from France must have completed:

  • Licence (since 2005) from a recognised HE institution:
    • For programmes requiring a 2:1: a minimum final grade of 14/20
    • For programmes requiring a 2:2: a minimum final grade of 12/20
  • or Diplôme  from a Grande Ecole:
    • For programmes requiring a 2:1: a minimum final grade of 13/20
    • For programmes requiring a 2:2: a minimum final grade of 11/20.

Please note that all applications are considered on an individual basis and students may be admitted to Master's programmes with a lower-level degree if they have work experience relevant to the degree applied for.

If you do not meet these criteria, you can apply for OnCampus' Master's Foundation programme, which is available for two- or three-term progression onto a wide range of Master’s degrees at Birkbeck.

French degree classification:

  • 13.00-20.00 (alternative name: Mention bien; English translation or equivalent: Very good = 1st)
  • 11.00-12.99 (alternative name: Mention assez bien; English translation or equivalent: Good = 2:1)
  • 10.20-10.99 (alternative name: Pasable; English translation or equivalent: Quite good = 2:2)
  • 10.00-10.19 (English translation or equivalent: Third class).

Research degrees Entry Requirements

For entry onto our research degree courses, students should normally have a Master’s degree from a UK university or a recognised university in France with a minimum final grade of 13/20.

Applicants are strongly urged to contact potential supervisors within the department before submitting a research application.
