Doctoral student experiences – organising academic events
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck Main Building, Malet Street
Our feedback from the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey and from PGR Student Reps has highlighted the importance of research culture and community to doctoral researchers. Involvement of doctoral researchers in organising academic events may take many forms and can play a valuable role in gaining experience that will help to build connections within the research community at Birkbeck and beyond.
Following a call for current doctoral researchers to share their experience of organising academic events we are really pleased to invite you to attend the following in person session. Two current doctoral research students will share their experiences of event organisation including:
• A summary of the events they organised and how they became involved
• Their motivations for organising the events they have been involved with
• Their experience or organising the events and issue to consider
• Views on the benefits of committing time and skills to organise events
The aim of the session is to recognise and celebrate the contributions made by these doctoral students and to provide a way to share their experience which may be useful to any doctoral researcher considering getting involved in a similar way.
Speakers
Each contributor will speak for 20 minutes followed by questions. The event will conclude with tea and coffee so attendees can continue to meet with those who present and attend.
