Earlier this year the BGRS resumed running Shut Up and Write! sessions to facilitate structured writing sessions for researchers who wanted to get words on paper. Those who attended agreed that writing is hard and it would be beneficial to hold a workshop in which people could discuss difficulties, and share successful strategies and productive routines.

The first of these will be held on Thursday 11 January from 11am-12pm. We will begin by discussing some established writing methods such as the Pomodoro technique which is the basis of the Shut Up and Write! sessions and is described in the Thesis Whisperer blog. But the majority of the session will be an open discussion to establish a set of practices that will prove useful to everyone approaching the daunting task of writing a thesis. Further sessions can be arranged if necessary, or specific writing forums such as the Shut Up and Write! sessions can be set up. It really is up to you what comes out of this. The more who sign up, the better it should be.
