The aim of this professional development workshop is to help researchers understand what is a helpful network of co-authors, and develop strategies to grow one. Developing a healthy network of co-authors is essential to early career academics’ success and satisfaction in research. It allows them to develop their research skills and successfully bring projects to completion, learn the norms of their research community, develop their visibility, have an impact, and ultimately have fulfilling research careers. Yet, researchers often have limited and/or weak connections with other members of their research community.
What will you get from participating in this workshop?
In this workshop, you will learn:
- How to turn friendly reviewers into co-authors
- How to recruit senior academics as co-authors
- How to join or lead big collaborative papers with multiple co-authors
- How to extend you co-author relationship with your former PhD supervisor by redefining your relationships with them
- Where to go when you are looking to recruit new co-authors
- How to develop relationships with other academics to turn them into potential co-authorship
Who is this workshop for?
All interested Birkbeck faculty members will benefit from participating in this workshop. However, early career faculty and research staff who have completed their PhD and holding post-doc positions or lectureships will particularly benefit from participating.
Where and when will this workshop take place?
This workshop will take place on Thursday 8 December 2022 from 11am until 1pm at 30 Russell Square. Room details will be confirmed by email closer to the time. Participants who would like to get more are most welcome to stay in the room 1-2pm for more experiential activities and discussions around sandwich lunch.
Workshop Facilitator
Dr Agnieszka Radziwon is Associate Professor of Innovation Management, and works both at Aarhus University in Denmark and University of California Berkeley in the USA. Her expertise is in innovation and technology management. As a scholar, Agnieszka is looking into a broader perspective of inter-organizational collaboration in various types of (eco)systems. She is interested in how knowledge is transferred across organizations, the role of networks in facilitating or hindering innovation, and how institutions codify ideas and practices. Agnieszka has published her work in journals like R&D Management, Journal of Business Research, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, among the others.
Dr Agnieszka Radziwon is experienced in delivering various workshops on networking in research for universities and academic societies.
