ABSTRACT

It has become increasingly important to disseminate the quality research undertaken in academic institutions to the general public. In this way, research can be put into practice more quickly, benefiting not just the practitioner, but informing researchers of future research directions, as observed through the application of previous work.

At the same time, we have witnessed the growth in Social Media being used as a means of communicating en-masse, which then necessitates the need for academics and researchers to employ it as a means of engaging with their intended audiences. There is, however, a need to have a good understanding of how this means of giving visibility to research for impact purposes is done effectively and efficiently.

Our focus at this event will be the use of Twitter and LinkedIn, with other Social Media outlets discussed as alternative means.
