Why is the EU believed to be facing a crisis of the rule of law in some of its members?  How does this crisis relate to the rise of so-called ‘illiberal democracy’? What has the EU done thus far to deal with this crisis, what can and what should it do from now on?

These are the issues that our panel of distinguished guests will discuss in the context of the second online event of this academic year to be held under the auspices of the Jean Monnet Chair in Parliamentary Democracy & European Integration at Birkbeck.

Speakers:

Laurent Pech, Middlesex University
Judith Sargentini, former MEP and author of the eponymous European Parliament report
Anna Wójcik, German Marshall Fund and Polish Academy of Sciences
Chair: Jennifer Rankin, Brussels correspondent of the Guardian

This event is open to the public. Registration is free but required.

Organised with the support of the EU’s Erasmus+ programme.
