Our live discussion event will begin at 18:00 on 04/06 here: https://eu.bbcollab.com/guest/b166f61bb05d4fdd9e1919ca866d1ecf

This event includes a BIMI Screening Room presentation of Stuart Croft's films Stag Without a Heart (2010) and Drive In (2007) followed by an online conversation between writer, filmmaker and curator Adam Roberts and curator/writer Gareth Evans. Adam and Gareth will be talking about cultural value and its legacies in the face of ecological collapse, drawing from Adam's research and his new book Lamentation in the Stuart Croft Archive.

Adam received the Stuart Croft Foundation Research Award in 2018 to undertake research in the Stuart Croft archive, looking at the papers and records of the late artist filmmaker, whose life and work was cut short unexpectedly. The outcome was a short book by Adam, Lamentation In the Stuart Croft Archive, published by Ma Bibliothèque (2020). In Roberts' own words, "It is a reverie on loss and despair as our race faces the real possibility of extinction. This work in the archive prompted reflections on the death of another filmmaker, Chantal Akerman, in the same year. I had known Akerman, having curated a retrospective of her films and artworks between 2013 and 15 at London's ICA and at Ambika P3 Gallery. Her death by suicide in 2015 was a great shock."

The discussion will include a short reading from Lamentation in the Stuart Croft Archive by actor Camilla Arfwedson (Drive In, Stuart Croft), plus introductions from Artist and Trustee of the Stuart Croft Foundation, Emma Bennett.

'Lamentation: on absence, the archive and what comes after' is hosted as part of Questions, an online season of events delivered by Stuart Croft Foundation inviting artists, curators, researchers and writers working with artists' moving image to discuss the process of thinking and making behind their projects. stuartcroftfoundation.org
