Join us for a live conversation between Jeremy Atherton Lin, author of Gay Bar: Why We Went Out (Little, Brown & Company 2021) and Birkbeck’s Katherine Angel, author of Tomorrow Sex Will Be Good Again (Verso 2021).
Gay Bar: Why We Went Out has been hailed as ‘an absolute tour de force’ by Maggie Nelson. It traverses rich and vivid histories of gay nightlife, and asks after its futures in a context in which more and more gay bars are closing. Jeremy Atherton Lin will offer a reading from his intimate and deeply personal debut, and discuss the many questions it raises – of pleasure, sexual identity, regulation, and freedom – with Katherine Angel, who explores these concerns in her own acclaimed writing on sex and sexuality.
Jeremy Atherton Lin was raised in California and now lives in London, where he studied writing at the Royal College of Art. Jeremy’s work has been published in the White Review, Tinted Window and the Times Literary Supplement, and he has been short-listed for the Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize. He is an editor at Failed States, a journal of art and writing on place.
Katherine Angel is the author of Tomorrow Sex Will Be Good Again (Verso, 2021), Daddy Issues (Peninsula Press, 2019), and Unmastered: A Book on Desire, Most Difficult to Tell (Penguin, 2012). She directs the MA in Creative and Critical Writing at Birkbeck, University of London, and her writing has appeared in The Guardian, Granta, The White Review, and Los Angeles Review of Books amongst other places.
