Venue: TBC

The next event of Birkbeck’s Alumni Enterprise Network will bring together aspiring entrepreneurs, self-employed professionals and small business owners for a practical exploration of what it takes to develop a business. Coinciding with National Entrepreneurs’ Day on 17 November, the event will celebrate entrepreneurship while offering an opportunity to learn from the real-world experiences of two Birkbeck alumni. Drawing on their own journeys, the speakers will focus on the human side of entrepreneurship rather than presenting a formula for success.

“How to Drive Your Business” by Robert Vadai (Foundation Degree in Information Technology, 2014, MSc Advanced Computing Technologies, 2017)

In the first part of the event, alumnus Robert Vadai will discuss how perseverance, purposeful communication and relationship-building can help business owners navigate rejection, create trust and turn conversations into longer-term opportunities. Robert will also explore the confidence needed to approach new contacts, contribute to conversations and remain comfortable when operating outside familiar territory. See Robert's bio in the 'Guest speaker bios' section below.

“Practical Pitching by Email” by Frankie Hastings (PG Diploma in Management, 2010)

In the second part, alumna Frankie Hastings will offer a practical introduction to effective email pitching. Participants will work through the stages of shaping a concise, focused message: clarifying the intended outcome, establishing a connection, identifying the recipient’s challenge, presenting a relevant solution, making a clear request and closing with an invitation to collaborate. They will also consider how and when to follow up. See Frankie's bio in the 'Guest speaker bios' section below.

Throughout the event, attendees will be encouraged to apply the ideas to their own work, share examples and learn from one another in a supportive, non-judgemental environment. A takeaway resource will help participants develop their approach afterwards.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn and be inspired.
