Preventing the Next Pandemic: Designing Drugs for Infectious Diseases

A chance discovery less than 100 years ago paved the way for one of the most important medicines of all time: penicillin. Since then, antibiotics have saved millions of lives by treating infections that were once deadly – but the fight against disease is far from over.

Join us for a BSc Biomedicine taster session at Birkbeck, University of London, and discover how scientists are tackling some of the world's biggest health challenges. You'll explore how specially designed molecules can target harmful bacteria and viruses, while gaining an insight into the techniques biomedical scientists use to investigate disease, develop new treatments, and stay ahead in the fight against antibiotic resistance and future pandemics.

You'll then join one of our student ambassadors for a tour of our central London campus and hear what it's really like to study at Birkbeck. You'll also discover how our BSc Biomedicine course is part of our Choose Your Own Timetable offering, giving you the flexibility to study during the day or evening and fit your degree around your busy life.
