Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): Accelerating Drug Discovery through Academia, Industry and the Innovation Ecosystem
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck Central
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most urgent global health challenges of our time, and tackling it demands bold ideas, new technologies, and collaboration across disciplines. This hybrid open symposium brings together leading academic researchers, industry partners, clinicians, innovators, big-data scientists, funders, and students to explore how structural biology, AI, automation, and cross-sector partnerships can accelerate the discovery of the next generation of lifesaving therapeutics.
Join us for a day of thought-provoking talks, panel discussions, and networking focused on the future of AI-enabled drug discovery and translational AMR research. Sessions will explore:
- Cutting-edge advances in AI for drug discovery
- Translational strategies to combat AMR
- Laboratory automation and innovation pathways
- Data management, security, and responsible research
- Funding opportunities and collaborative models between academia and industry
This initiative brings together the expertise of the ISMB–Mycobacteria Research Laboratory, Birkbeck’s Innovation and Commercialisation Unit, and the Birkbeck Centre for Innovation Management Research, in partnership with leading national and international organisations to drive innovation and maximise impact.
We would be delighted to have you join us and contribute your expertise to this growing community. Full programme for the 6th July event to follow.
To express interest in attending the invitationonly workshop on Tuesday 7th July, please contact: Professor Sanjib Bhakta — s.bhakta@bbk.ac.uk or Dr Manoj Saxena — m.saxena@bbk.ac.uk.
We are also hosting an undergraduate level hybrid taster session for Birkbeck's BSc Biomedicine programme, 'Fighting Superbugs', on Wednesday 8th July. Find out more about the taster and book your slot here.
