Venue: Birkbeck 43 Gordon Square

Centred on two short films — The Man Who Painted His House (Victoria Mills and Lily Ford, 2025) and Manual/Hands (Ford, 2026) — this event explores a cluster of interconnected themes: the spaces of making; haptic time; the temporalities of the house museum; aesthetic labour; and the hierarchies of arts, crafts, class and society.

This is the second event in BIMI's Making series, which explores the moving image as a lived cultural practice. Each event departs from a specific work to reflect not only on what moving image is about, but on how it is made: the collaborations, decisions and processes that constitute moving image practice in itself.

The event unfolds in two parts.

Part 1: Workshop. 15:30-18:30
A participatory workshop hosted in the foyer, in which you are invited to contribute to the making of a triptych — an act of collective making that situates the question of aesthetic labour within direct, embodied experience.

The workshop will be led by Gabriela Szulman, a decoupage artist.

Only 20 places are available for the workshop.
with refreshments from 18:00
