Welcome to the Microsoft Word Introductory Workshop —

This workshop is designed specifically for university students who are new to Word or want to refresh their existing skills using Word.

Whether you're writing essays, formatting lab reports, or preparing dissertations, Microsoft Word is an essential academic tool. This workshop will guide you through the basics of Word and help you build practical skills that support your coursework and academic success.

The session will focus on the following:

  • Creating a new Word document
  • Naming and saving your document securely
  • Fonts and sizes
  • Page numbers
  • Spell check and word count
  • Formats for various purposes

This workshop is part of "Get Ready", a series of study skills workshops to help prepare you for the new year and new term ahead. New and prospective students, as well as enrolled students, are all welcome to join us. You may view the full list of GET READY workshops here.

This online workshop is delivered via Microsoft Teams. You will receive a confirmation in your email inbox after you register for the workshop, and the Teams link will be available about an hour before the start of the workshop. It's intended for enrolled Birkbeck students only.
