Book your place

Join Daniel Greenberg, Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, for a talk and Q&A exploring the day-to-day reality of Parliament and the role it plays in public life.

This event offers insight into what Parliament is there to do, how it operates in practice, and what Greenberg’s role involves. As Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, he works independently within the House of Commons, overseeing how rules are applied and helping ensure systems function as intended.

Greenberg brings decades of experience at the heart of UK legislation. He previously served as a Parliamentary Counsel for nearly 20 years, helping draft laws, before becoming Counsel for Domestic Legislation in the House of Commons. Earlier in his career, he worked in the Lord Chancellor’s Department and has since contributed extensively to legal publishing and scholarship on legislation and public law.

This event builds on that perspective, focusing on understanding how Parliament works, why it exists, and what happens behind the scenes. The session will begin with a moderated conversation based on questions submitted by students, followed by an open Q&A. Audience questions are central, making this a chance to engage directly, ask what you’re curious about, and explore Parliament through conversation.

This event is open to current Birkbeck students only.
