Social Sciences Festival 2026: Symposium: How do we deal with London's Borders?

When:
Venue: TBC

Book your place

This symposium brings together geographers, planners and political scientists to discuss how London’s borders can be analysed and political tensions managed. We focus particularly on how environmental initiatives by London boroughs and the GLA can identify and address border issues and cross-border spillovers. The ULEZ expansion debate showed how objectors from outside Greater London could mobilise opposition, posing a challenge to cohesion within London. We will discuss how planners and politicians might anticipate and manage territorial divisions, using tools such as urban complex network analysis alongside established planning tools and conventional political analysis.
