Political Laundry: a Taster Workshop
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck 43 Gordon Square
Political Laundry is a workshop, a form of invitation that allows us to uncover who we each are as political beings. With newspapers and magazines, along with pens, pencils and a notebook, and with digital choices too, we document ourselves.
Your political laundry, our political laundry, my political laundry. How rarely do we take time to assess and reassess ourselves, our viewpoints. In this workshop you join Mary Hushlak to use a technique, a model of what we can do. With others, or at home, on a Sunday, or any day that we can take the time. And to remind ourselves that there are two aspects to laundry, what needs washing, a kind of equivalent to the unexamined life, but also clean laundry that can exude freshness. This is a technique with analogue newspapers and magazines, along with pens, pencils and a notebook. Each of us create our own notation system. To use as we read. There’s also a phone or tablet. And could digital responses be a form of making notes? Ending the workshop session with face-to-face conversation/discussion, including responses to the specific tasks, and then going home to try it all out.
Chair, Birkbeck's own Seda Ilter.
