The Birkbeck School of Social Sciences is organising the next student-led conference as part of the School’s exciting and diverse festival of events during the first two weeks of June. The conference will be a full-day in-person event.

It will be a space for doctoral researchers to learn, share and connect with research peers from the School, broader Birkbeck research community and our neighbouring universities. PhD students at different stages of their research journeys at Birkbeck will present around the central theme of discovering, understanding and creating research impact.

We invite you to participate in this annual event, which this year will consider:

  • Impact in policy, practice, and communities.
  • Theories of change and impact pathways.
  • Impactful methodologies.
  • Case studies where research has informed policy, theory or practice.
  • Inequality, marginalisation, and social justice.
  • How social science research influences public opinion, media narratives, and political discourse.
  • Ethical, political, and epistemic considerations in research.
  • Power, voice, and representation.
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations and their added value for social impact.
  • Communication and dissemination of research.
  • Personal and affective impact throughout the PhD journey.
