This workshop is for Birkbeck students. Book your place in My Birkbeck / Events and Workshops (not sure how to do that? Watch this short video guide!). If you use the link above to book, please use your Birkbeck student email address to sign up - thanks!

  • Do you often get comments on assignments about needing to proofread your work better?
  • Do you need guidance on how to approach the proofreading process?
  • Do you feel confused or worried about whether (and how) you can use tools like Grammarly or genAI chatbots without committing an academic offence?

If your answer to any of these questions is yes, then this workshop may be useful for you.

Editing and proofreading is an important part of the writing process, yet it is one that many students don’t do—or don’t know how to do well. With the advent of generative AI, you may also be worried about how you can use such tools to help you proofread your work without getting into trouble.

In this session, we’ll consider why proofreading is important, especially in academic writing, and look at some practical strategies and tips for reviewing your work effectively before submission. We’ll also consider how to genAI for writing feedback without breaking any academic rules.
