The Revolution Will Be Archived.

Friday 20 March 2026, Birkbeck Cinema | 15:00-17:00

In collaboration with Screen Cuba, students from the Birkbeck MA Film Programming and Curation present a programme of Cuban short films that explores the condition of Cuba’s film archives and the cultural significance of restoration and preservation.

The screening opens with two documentaries by Sara Gómez—Iré a Santiago (1964) and Guanabacoa: Crónicas de mi Familia (1966)—including a recorded contribution from Susan Lord of the Vulnerable Media Lab on the recent restoration process for Sara Gómez's films. Followed by Santiago Álvarez’s landmark short NOW! (1965) and the recently restored animation Una Aventura de Elpidio Valdés (1974) by Juan Padrón.

The curators will be joined by invited guests for discussion and an audience Q&A, followed by a drinks reception.
