This Seminar Series seeks to bring together Black early career researchers who are committed to addressing issues affecting the health and well-being of Black communities. It aims to create a supportive space where researchers can exchange ideas, build collaborations and access advice and mentorship to support their future career pathways, while engaging in work that is meaningful and relevant to Black community life.

Join Dr Donald Palmer, Associate Professor of Immunology at the RVC, University of London, as he reflects on his academic journey, what drew him to the health field, and the challenges and opportunities facing Black researchers working in this space.

  • Dr Donald Palmer —

    Dr Donald Palmer is Associate Professor of Immunology at the RVC, University of London, and holds honorary or visiting roles at Imperial College London, Cambridge University, and Oxford. His research focuses on ageing and the immune system, and he teaches and supervises at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He serves on editorial boards, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Higher Education Academy and contributes to initiatives supporting diversity in science. Recipient of the inaugural British Society for Immunology Diversity and Inclusion Award and recently received the Weekly Gleaner UK Honour Awards in Science & Technology. Donald is a member of the MRC’s Black in Biomedical Research Advisory Group along with being a Steering, and Programme Committee member of Minoritised Life Scientists Future Forum. Donald is Co-Founder/Co-Director of Reach Society, an award-winning social enterprise, which aims to inspire young people to fulfil their potential. A Professional Mentor for Amos Bursary and a Chair of Governors at a school in London.
