Roundtable: The Role of Heritage in Recovery and Transitional Justice in Syria
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck Central
The Carena Institute of Sustainable Archaeologies (CISA) invites you to an event on Syrian Heritage.
Can heritage contribute to recovery after conflict? After years of violence, displacement and institutional rupture, heritage is increasingly central to questions of rights, memory, accountability and dignified livelihoods. This roundtable brings together practitioners and researchers to discuss how cultural heritage can support recovery and transitional justice, and the risks of exclusion when reconstruction and interpretation are shaped without meaningful community participation.
Join our speakers for a discussion on how cultural heritage intersects with recovery priorities, rights, memory, and transitional-justice processes in Syria.
Speakers:
Dr Hiba Alkhalaf, Research Fellow, Birkbeck, University of London
Abdullah Alkafri, Ettijahat – Independent Culture
Waseem Albahri, Cultural Heritage Specialist
Mirma Alwareh, The Bartlett, University College London / Chevening Scholar
