Growing Up in SoloMother Families: What Shapes Children's WellBeing
When:

Venue:

Vasanti Jadva's research on solomother families highlights that children conceived and raised by single mothers by choice show positive psychological adjustment and healthy development. Her findings consistently point to parenting quality and family relationships, rather than family structure, being the key predictors of child wellbeing. Vasanti is Professor of Family Psychology at City St Georges, University of London. She holds honorary positions at the Centre for Child, Adolescent and Family Research, University of Cambridge and the Institute for Women's Health, UCL. Her research examines the psychological well-being of parents and children in families created using IVF, egg donation, sperm donation and surrogacy. She also studies the psychological health and lived experiences of surrogates and gamete donors. She is currently working on several studies including a project focusing on male infertility, a longitudinal study of families formed using assisted reproduction, and a project on the psychological wellbeing of egg donors.
