Climate Festival 2026 - Ponding Dipping: Ecopsychotherapy and the Receptive Unconscious.
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck Central
This talk explores the learning which emerged from a collaborative project - between a psychodynamic psychotherapist and a local Borough Education Manager and a nature guide - funded by the Climate Partnership. The project, held in Braywick Nature Reserve, was part-therapeutic, part-restorative, for people coming to terms with the death of a partner. Both facilitators noticed the impact of nature connectedness on the grieving psyche, as well witnessing the growing capacity of participants to make links between their inner unconscious landscape and the movements, sounds, appearances in the more than human world. There will be some discussion of the way in which feeling was evoked through encounters with nature, as a counterpoint to the construct of the bounded, separated, psychological self. The talk will include a short experiential activity.
