Dr Stéphanie LATTE ABDALLAH is a political anthropologist and a historian. She is a research director at France's National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) at EHESS (CéSor) in Paris. She was awarded the CNRS Bronze medal.
She has worked on the social history of Palestinian refugees, gender issues, and secular and Islamic feminisms in the Middle East, and has explored the connections between images, history, and politics. She frequently participates in art/science projects and co-directed the documentary film (with E. Ahmad) Inner Mapping (Palestine, France, 51', 2017). Her recent research focuses on borders, carcerality, and prisons in Palestine/Israel. She notably edited (with C. Parizot), Palestinians and Israelis in the Shadows of the Wall. Spaces of Separation and Occupation, Ashgate, 2015. She also works on emerging citizen mobilizations, ecologism, and concrete utopias in Palestine and Lebanon. She is the PI of the ANR IMAGIN-E research program (Alter-Citizens in the Middle East. Inventing Resistance in Times of Violence) (2022-2027), and is leading (with J. Duclos-Valois) the post-graduate teaching seminar Ecologies and the living in Crises and Wars - Contemporary Arab Societies and Muslim Worlds (EHESS).
Her recent publications include The Prison Web. A History of Confinement in Palestine (Palgrave Macmillan 2022), and Des morts en guerre. Rétention des corps et figures du martyr en Palestine (Karthala 2022). In 2025, she co-edited (with V. Bontemps) Gaza. Une guerre coloniale (Actes Sud), and, in 2026, Gaza inédite. Société, arts et politique (with Abaher el-Sakka and Marion Slitine) (Presses de l’Ifpo).
