Webinar Sessions - 12:10 - 12:50 GMT:

Business - Digital Innovation, Business Disruption and the Future of Work

We are living through a rapid business revolution where disruption is redefining entire industries. Change is faster, more impactful, and less predictable than ever, shaping what customers expect, how businesses operate, and how careers are built. This webinar explores what the future of work means for you — the skills, mindset, and adaptability needed to thrive in a world where the future will look very different from the past.

Psychology - Adaptation, Resilience and Success: Unlocking the Secrets of Human Brain and Behaviour

Life is unpredictable, and change is a constant. In this session, Prof Elisa Raffaella Ferre explores how the brain detects and responds to change, and how understanding these processes can help you navigate uncertainty and embrace new opportunities. The session also examines the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to adapt in a rapidly changing world, and how a career in psychology can equip you to better understand yourself, others, and the world around you.

Biomedicine - Shaping Your Career in Global Health Challenges

We are at a pivotal moment for global health, with infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance and health inequalities reshaping science, medicine and public health. This Intelligent Impact seminar explores how a Royal Society of Biology–accredited Biomedicine degree at Birkbeck can lead to diverse, future-focused careers across healthcare, research, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, public health and beyond. Led by Professor Sanjib Bhakta, the session includes a taster lecture on antimicrobial resistance, highlighting how biomedical science translates cutting-edge research into real-world impact and prepares graduates to tackle today’s most urgent global health challenges.

Computer Science - Beyond the Screen: Spatial Computing and the Next Frontier of Computer Science

Step beyond the screen and explore the future of spatial computing. This talk examines how Augmented and Virtual Reality are transforming Computer Science education by turning abstract concepts into immersive 3D experiences. Discover how Birkbeck’s Immersive Learning Centre bridges theory and practice through cutting-edge VR technologies, and learn how mastering spatial tools can give you a competitive edge in fields such as game development, cybersecurity and AI.

Environment and Sustainability - Climate Change, Emotion, and Action: How We Communicate in a Warming World

Climate change is not only a scientific challenge, but an emotional and cultural one. In this talk, Dr Steve Willey examines why climate change communication often provokes anxiety, denial, anger, or inaction, and what this means for effective public engagement. Drawing on psychology, media studies, environmental humanities, and real-world case studies, the session explores how emotions shape understanding, debate, and everyday responses to climate change. Rather than seeing emotion as an obstacle, the talk highlights how feelings such as fear, grief, hope, and care can be harnessed to support insight, motivation, and resilience. Students will also learn how strong communication skills in environment and sustainability can lead to careers in journalism, policy, advocacy, creative industries, and public leadership.
