Complete Fragments: Screening Fragments from the TV Archive
In collaboration with BIMI, Complete Fragments curates television archive content that brings to life the five key themes of the one-day symposium, Transnational Approaches and Comparisons between Television Archives Research.'
This evening screening showcases rare material demonstrating the challenges of creating and maintaining television archives across different eras and contexts—including nations with commercially centered television industries where national archives are underdeveloped or non-existent. Drawn from both public and private collections—national institutions (UK, Brazil, Italy), regional archives and specialist archives like LUX—the programme features fragments and remnants of long-running TV programmes and serials, offering direct comparison of different archival models, their accessibility and preservation priorities. Alongside material direct from the archive will be examples of the creative use of the TV archive in making television documentaries.
Join us for an illuminating exploration of what survives, what's lost and what these fragments reveal about television's material history.
