About Professor Meir Statman
Professor Meir Statman is the Glenn Klimek Professor of Finance at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business. His pioneering research bridges finance and psychology, exploring how investors and managers make financial decisions and how these decisions reflect normal, human wants—such as belonging, pride, and hope—rather than mere rational utility.
He is one of the founders of behavioural finance, with award-winning papers published in the Journal of Finance, Financial Analysts Journal, and Journal of Portfolio Management. His insights have profoundly shaped how academics and practitioners understand saving, spending, investing, and the broader meaning of financial choices.
About his Book: A Wealth of Well-Being
In his recent book A Wealth of Well-Being, Professor Statman expands behavioural finance into its third generation—linking financial well-being with life well-being.
He argues that money is only one element of a fulfilling life and that our financial behaviour is deeply intertwined with our relationships, health, work, education, and sense of purpose.
The book explores how our cognitive biases, emotions, and life goals shape both our portfolios and our personal happiness. It offers a framework for understanding how to live well, not just how to invest well—making it essential reading for anyone interested in finance, psychology, and the pursuit of a meaningful life.
This seminar offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the pioneers of behavioural finance. Professor Statman will share fresh insights on the relationship between money and meaning, drawing on decades of research into how financial choices reflect human values and aspirations. His talk will illuminate how we can think more deeply about the purpose of wealth and the role of finance in enhancing life satisfaction. The session will be valuable for anyone interested in the intersection of finance, psychology, and well-being, and will include a Q&A for participants to engage with Professor Statman’s ideas firsthand.
Please feel free to share this invitation (14 November; 2–3 pm UK time) with anyone who may be interested—students, colleagues, or external researchers.
We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a thought-provoking and inspiring session.
