This session is for research students (MRes, MPhil, PhD) who would like to learn more about the library resources available to them, and help improve your literature searching skills. Attending this session will provide you with valuable preparation for your research and the library resources available to you, and allow you to meet some of our subject-specialist librarians.

After this session you will:

  • Be able to identify which databases to use to find journal articles and other library resources.
  • Understand how to create an effective search strategy and use boolean operators (AND/OR/NOT).
  • Know how to set up alerts, save searches, and use other practical features of different databases.
  • Be familiar with which AI tools can help with your literature searching.
  • Have an understanding of how reference manager software works.
  • Know where to find and access resources outside of Birkbeck.
