'Inspiring greater participation in UK parliamentary democracy': Working (with) Heritage Collections at the Houses of Parliament
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck 43 Gordon Square
The Heritage Collections at UK Parliament are home to more than 26,000 objects: artworks, furniture and detached architectural fabric. They range from relics of the medieval palace, to integral painted and sculpted schemes from Barry and Pugin’s neo-gothic new palace, to Gilbert Scott’s post-war rebuild and contemporary commissioning. As working collections that reflect our nation’s past, present and future, these objects are integral to the history and current work of Parliament serving Chamber business and Committees as well as high profile events, our public engagement programme and outreach activities. This talk will consider the challenges and opportunities represented by the unique Parliamentary context.
