What can trans history do for us now? A screening of Framing Agnes and discussion with writer and historian Morgan M. Page

Join us on Friday 17th October for a screening of the feature film Framing Agnes (2022).

Through a twist on the talk-show format, Framing Agnes explores medical archives and media fascination with trans people in mid-twentieth century America. Since its premier at Sundance in 2022, the film has reverberated through trans studies and critical discussions about representation, cultural production and trans history.

After the film, we will be joined for a discussion by Morgan M. Page – historian, artist, and co-writer of Framing Agnes. Through some of the critical questions that Framing Agnes poses we’ll explore the film’s legacy in trans culture and historical work, asking: what can transhistory do for us in our current political moment?

Morgan M Page is a Canadian writer, historian, and filmmaker in London, UK. She is the co-writer of the feature film Framing Agnes and the film studies book Boys Don’t Cry. She is also the creator of the trans history podcast One from the Vaults and executive produced the series Harsh Reality: the Miriam Rivera Story.

Morgan will be in conversation with Brell Wilson-Morris, a PhD candidate in Birkbeck's School of Creative Arts, Culture and Communication working on late twentieth-century trans history.
