You may find the academic university environment is very different from what you've been used to in school, at college or in work. This workshop starts by considering why you are studying at Birkbeck, and will identify the valuable skills, qualities and experiences that you bring to your studies. The importance of being an independent, reflective and active learner at university will be addressed, including the study skills you will need to be an effective student, including time management, reading and note making, academic writing and critical thinking.
