Decolonisation and global health
May 29 14.30 pm to 5 pm.
This is the second seminar of the Decolonising Health research network funded by the Wellcome Trust research cultures grant at Birkbeck.
In this seminar we will discuss the possibility of orientating the network around the decolonisation of global health. We anticipate that the next two subsequent seminars will be one on mental health and on sexual and reproductive health. Our thinking is partly that mental health and SRH are so deeply cultural that the science vs culture discourses that the conversation about decolonlizing health often gets caught in does not apply in the same way. Other potential topics for future seminars are water and disease and 'development' (especially the construction of dams).
This event is open to academics, including early career researchers and doctoral students who are interested in developing and contributing to a network on decolonizing global health. It is a free, afternoon event. There will be a mid afternoon break for sandwiches and coffee/tea. Please book.se book.
