Research Students and Learning Differences – Power to the Students
When:
—
Venue:
Online
To celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Week Dr Ivan Newman, an expert in neurodiversity who specialises in supporting PhD students, will lead a bespoke session for research students and their supervisors at Birkbeck. This session is aimed at both students and supervisors. While each may come to the event with different questions, the structure of the session will make the presence of both a positive feature.
Dr Newman’s presentation will last an hour and fifteen minutes, followed by fifteen minutes for questions.
Students
Dr Ivan Newman will present strategies to make your research easier to execute and more likely to succeed. The session will address six key areas of undertaking research:
- research questions
- reading
- writing
- fieldwork
- discussing
- concluding.
As Ivan will be using Metimeter, there will be an opportunity for audience participation in the session.
Supervisors
Dr Ivan Newman will present a selection of key strategies which will enhance your supervision, to ensure that your PhD students make satisfactory academic progress so they can complete their theses on time.
As Ivan will be using Metimeter, there will be an opportunity for audience participation in the session.
We think this session will be of benefit to all research supervisors and will help you to develop a bank of resources that you can use with all of your research students, not only those who are neurodivergent. We look forward to seeing you all at the event.
