Linking London Access to HE Diploma Practitioner Group Meeting

At the first Access to HE Diploma practitioner group meeting of this academic year we will be hearing from Marisa Castellini, Head of Access to HE at OCN London, who will be updating the group on the latest OCN London news and Access developments, including an update on the summer results. We will also be exploring with colleagues how Access recruitment and enrolment is progressing to date at our partner colleges and any initial patterns by subject area.
Helping to ensure Access learners stay the course once enrolled and successfully complete their qualification has always been a key consideration for providers, and one that has been exacerbated by the current cost of living crisis. According to QAA figures, over a third of Access learners leave their course within 43 days of starting and just over 76% are retained for the whole course. At the meeting we will be hearing from Dr Fiona Murray, Head of School at Morley College London, who will be providing an overview of their Access offer and how the college approaches the issues around student retention and success. This will be followed by a group discussion, which will provide an opportunity for colleagues to share current practice, including key issues and strategies to improve retention rates.
At the meeting Linking London will also be sharing details of our latest resources aimed at Access staff and learners, including our Access Week, taking place from the 16th of October.
And finally, via our round table update we will be hearing the latest news from our college and university partners, including any issues faced and examples of good practice as well as outreach support and forthcoming events.
This meeting is aimed at college Access teaching staff and heads of department, student support service staff and careers advisers, as well as university outreach and admissions staff, but anyone with an interest in Access to HE Diploma developments is very welcome to attend.
