Birkbeck 200th Anniversary: Creating a More Equitable Tech Sector
When:
—
Venue:
Birkbeck Clore Management Centre
With only 8.5% of senior leaders in the UK tech sector from ethnic minority groups and only 16% of IT professionals who identify as female, there is much work to be done to create a more equitable and diverse sector.
Birkbeck has championed social mobility and lifelong learning for 200 years. Improving access to tech for under-represented groups and local communities is a key strategic priority as we mark our bicentenary year.
As part of this work we are hosting a roundtable discussion with panellists including Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, Founder of Stemettes, Craig Fenton, MD of Strategy and Operations at Google, and Chris Yiu, Director of Public Policy at Meta, Northern Europe. The panel will share their own experiences and challenges of working in the sector and debate how we can collaborate to create a more equitable tech sector.
The event will be attended by senior policy-makers, industry experts and angel investors, along with our student and alumni community. Some of the outputs of the discussion will be incorporated into Birkbeck's long-term vision and digital strategy.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception.
