Editing the Long Nineteenth Century: Recovering Women in the Digital Age is a one-day Wikipedia edit-a-thon, to be held at Birkbeck, University of London, to mark International Women's Day 2017.

When: Wednesday 8 March 2017, 1-5pm and 5-7pm

Where: Room 324, 1-5pm and room 106, 5-7pm. Both rooms are located in the Birkbeck School of Arts, 43-46 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0PD.

We will be offering short Wikipedia training sessions at 1.30pm in room 324, and at 5.30pm in room 106.

This event, supported by the Birkbeck Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies, aims to increase the visibility and discoverability of 'forgotten' women of the long nineteenth century.

Many women of the long nineteenth century have not received the historical attention they deserve. While many had a significant impact on contemporary art, literature, science, politics, social reform, and other important fields, the work to recover these women is only just beginning. Ensuring that these women have a digital presence is a crucial part of making them discoverable for broad audiences and new researchers. Our Wikipedia edit-a-thon invites you to participate in the project of increasing the digital presence of the unjustly forgotten women of the long nineteenth century.

The event is free to attend and open to all. It will be run as two drop-in sessions, so bring your laptop, come when you can, and stay as long as you like! If you can't be there in person, we encourage you to participate remotely and tweet your progress, as well as any questions, to us at @recoveringwc19. Please tweet using the hashtag #BBKIWD
