Discredited Memories and the Archive

When:
Venue: Birkbeck 43 Gordon Square

No booking required

This research seminar focuses on discredited memories and the archive. It explores in particular the challenge of working with the testimonies of witnesses to genocide (both victims and perpetrators) in relation to the question of oral testimonies as a genre. The session addresses the difficulties of capturing and working (as researchers) with discredited/suppressed/traumatic memories and looks at insights coming from psychotherapists working with survivors, as we review and discuss various methodological approaches to dealing with the status of survivor testimony in familial and societal contexts.

This research seminar is open to research students in the School of Arts.
