Campaigns such as Why is my curriculum white? Rhodes must Fall, Why isn't my Professor Black? Decolonising the Curriculum, and reports such as that from Runnymede Trust Aiming Higher on 'Race, Inequality and Diversity in the Academy' (2015), all point to the fact that UK higher education is still failing in its duty to confront racism and provide genuinely inclusive teaching and learning environments.
This one day symposium brings together the expertise of talented black scholars to engage in critical conversations on the state of their respective disciplines in regards to issues of 'race' inclusiveness and engaged academic excellence. The focus of this symposium will be the academic areas of History, Education and Religion. Academics, students and community members are all invited to be a part of this important dialogue.
