Guidance for prospective MPhil/PhD students

Research in Birkbeck's Department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies is both academic and practice-based. It spans arts management, cultural studies, curatorial theory and practice, digital culture, film, media and television studies, and journalism. 

Birkbeck was ranked as one of the top four universities in the UK for its Art and Design research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
