RegisterCourse Overview
This inspiring 'taster' course introduces you to the three main counselling approaches: person-centred, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapy. Videos and case histories are used as a means of exploring key ideas and you are invited to take part in skills-building exercises where you learn through practice, self-reflection and feedback from others. Introduction to Counselling is taught via academic and experiential learning: key counselling issues are explored through both lectures and group activities.
This thought-provoking and illuminating course provides opportunities for you to reflect upon your own interest in counselling, to explore how you may apply theory and skills to your own personal and professional roles, and to consider progression routes into further training.
This 30-hour course is designed for those who have no previous knowledge or experience of counselling. It will suit anyone who has a general interest in therapeutic practice, as well as those considering further study and training in the field.
As a student on this course, you will study alongside Birkbeck students enrolled on one of our undergraduate or postgraduate courses, giving you the opportunity to network with a range of Birkbeck current students whilst you learn.
This course is non-credit bearing, so carries no credit points.
