Module description

In this module we provide an option to explore the critical area of how archaeology is managed in England, the structures that exist to support it and the roles of different professional positions and organisations. It provides a workplace-based perspective on archaeological practice in England.

We will explore the development of archaeological heritage management in England and critically review the current guidance of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The perspectives of professionals working as curators, consultants and contractors will be assessed and key organisations involved in archaeological heritage management identified. These perspectives and roles will then be drawn together in an assessed evaluation of World Heritage Site Management Plans.
