Module description

In this module we introduce you to key issues, concepts and multidisciplinary methods employed in the study of language and intercultural communication. We will focus on the role of language in intercultural encounters in different contexts such as classroom, workplace, diasporic communities, travel and study abroad.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to demonstrate:

  • substantial knowledge and understandings of the main theories, principles and models in the study of intercultural communication
  • substantial knowledge of the relationship between language, cognition and intercultural communication
  • appreciation of the relationship between theory and practice and the ability to make connection between theories and practice
  • self-confidence through appreciation of individual and cultural styles of learning and communication
  • sensitivity to cross-cultural differences and aptitude to turn diversity into advantages.
