Module description

In this module you will have an opportunity to expand your understanding of public health and public health policy.

You will be challenged to not only identify and explain key issues of public and global health - including climate change, obesity and infectious diseases - but also to recognise, explain and suggest mitigations for public health iniquities. You will learn to analyse the impacts of broader priority setting and policy decision-making on the public health agenda, and will appreciate how these perspectives are essential in effectively tackling today’s global health challenges.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand the foundational principles of public health, their development and how they are applied to health-related policies
  • analyse examples of key issues in public and global health, including climate change, obesity and infectious diseases, and critically assess the robustness and impact of actions taken
  • recognise and explain health iniquities, accounting for their origins, illustrating with exemplars and identifying measures to address them
  • provide an integrated account, with examples, of conceptual frameworks associated with health policy
  • analyse the impacts of broader agenda setting and policy decision-making on public health.
